What is the Global Business Mobility (GBM): Senior or Specialist Worker visa?

The Global Business Mobility (GBM): Senior or Specialist Worker UK visa route is for overseas workers who are undertaking temporary work assignments in the UK, where the worker is a senior manager or specialist employee and is being assigned to a UK business linked to their employer overseas. This type of assignment is often called an
intra-company transfer or ICT

This visa has replaced the Tier 2 (Intra-Company Transfer) visa.

What are the business requirements for the Global Business Mobility (GBM): Senior or Specialist Worker visa route?

UK Business Requirements:

  • A company must be authorised by the Home Office to sponsor GBM: Senior or Specialist Worker visa holders and hold a valid Sponsor Licence for the GBM: Senior or Specialist Worker route
  • If you do not already hold a sponsor licence, you must apply for one by completing the online application form, paying the relevant application fee, and submitting the supporting evidence specified in the sponsor guidance
  • If you already hold a valid licence to sponsor workers, but it does not include the GBM: Senior or Specialist Worker route, you can apply to add the GBM: Senior or Specialist Worker route to your existing licence
  • You must be able to offer employment that meets the skill level and salary requirements for the GBM: Senior or Specialist Worker route, is genuine and which does not amount to the hiring of the worker to a third party to undertake an ongoing or routine role

 

Overseas Linked Business Requirements:

  • The worker to be sponsored in the UK must be working for an overseas business which is linked by common ownership or control to or which has a joint venture with the UK business to which they are being assigned to work
  • It can be shown that the overseas business is linked by common ownership or control to the UK business if for example, one entity holds more than half of the shares in the other entity, one entity controls the composition of the other entity’s board or if one part of the business is a representative office or branch of the other part of that business – for example, a registered UK establishment of an overseas company
  • Where the link between the two entities between which the transfer will take place is that an individual owns shares in each entity, that individual must have a majority shareholding in each entity

      • 5 years in any 6-year period if you’re paid less than £73,900 a year
      • 9 years in any 10-year period if you’re paid £73,900 a year or more

    • Can you apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) as a Global Business Mobility (GBM): Senior or Specialist Worker visa holder?

      No, the GBM: Senior or Specialist Worker visa route does not lead to settlement, and permission in this route will not count towards the qualifying period of stay required to settle should you later apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) under another route.

      If you apply from inside the UK, the application can take up to 8 weeks to process.

      You can get your visa faster within 5 working days if you pay an extra fee of £500 for the priority visa service or by the next working day if you pay an extra fee of £1000 for the super priority visa service.

      If you apply from outside the UK, a decision is typically made within 3 weeks.
