New Youth Mobility Scheme Arrangement With Andorra And Enhancements For Australian And Canadian Nationals

Personal Immigration, 8 September 2023

The UK has negotiated a new Youth Mobility Scheme arrangement with Andorra.  Accordingly, Andorra will be added to the list of countries and territories participating in the Youth Mobility Scheme visa as from 31 January 2024, and the Immigration Rules will be amended to reflect the requirements for Andorran citizens coming to the UK.

The UK’s existing reciprocal, bilateral arrangements with Australia and Canada have also been enhanced – the age range is being expanded from 18-30 to 18-35 and the length of stay is being increased from 2 to 3 years. These changes will also take effect from 31 January 2024.

What is the Youth Mobility Scheme UK visa?

The Youth Mobility Scheme UK visa route implements the international commitments which the UK has made to provide cultural exchange programmes for young people.  It allows a person aged between 18 and 30 (or 18-35 for some nationalities) from participating countries and territories to experience life in the UK for up to 2 years (or 3 years for some nationalities).

No job offer or other sponsorship in the UK is required to apply for the visa.

Participating countries and territories are currently Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Iceland, India, Japan, Monaco, New Zealand, Republic of Korea, San Marino, and Taiwan.

The maximum total allocation of places available for use by nationals of the above countries and territories participating in the Youth Mobility Scheme in 2023 are as follows:

  • Australia – 35,000 places
  • Canada – 8,000 places
  • Hong Kong – 1,000 places
