The Graduate UK visa route is for a Student in the UK who wants to work or look for work in the UK
following the successful completion of an eligible course of study in the UK at bachelor’s degree-level or
above. The study must have been with a higher education provider with a track record of compliance.

The Graduate visa is an unsponsored route to remain in the UK.

    • Do you need to wait to apply until you have graduated or have been given your qualification certificate?

      No, you do not have to wait to apply until you’ve graduated or have been given a certificate. You can apply after your education provider (such as your university or college) has told the Home Office that you’ve successfully completed the course you took with your Student visa.

    • Do you need to satisfy an English language requirement for a Graduate visa?

      No, you do not need to satisfy any English language requirement as part of the application.

    • Do you need to satisfy a financial requirement for a Graduate visa?

      No, you do not need to satisfy any financial requirement as part of the application.

    • Which activities can you undertake in the UK if you hold a Graduate visa?

      Graduate visa holders can undertake any work in the UK, including paid and unpaid employment, self-employment and engaging in business or any professional activity. The only restriction placed on a Graduate’s ability to work is a prohibition on working as a professional sportsperson (including coaching).

    • How long is a Graduate visa valid for?

      The Graduate visa will be granted for 3 years if your qualification studied is a PhD or other doctoral qualification or 2 years for all other qualifications.

      If you wish to stay longer in the UK, you cannot extend your Graduate visa. However, you may be able to switch to a different visa, for example, a Skilled Worker visa or Global Talent visa.

    • Can you apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) as a Graduate visa holder?

      No, the Graduate visa is not a route which leads to Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) in the UK.

    • How long will your Graduate visa application take to process?

      You’ll usually get a decision on your Graduate visa application within 8 weeks.
